AolNews - Police say a California man took the word "stickup" literally when he robbed a gas station armed with a tree branch. Cops in Irvine believe Herlin Mendez worked with an accomplice to hold up a Shell station on Nov. 22. The accomplice, who remains at large, reportedly approached a gas station clerk with some questions about tires at around 8:30 p.m. -- then Mendez appeared brandishing a branch, according to TheWeeklyVice.com. Police say the two men threatened the clerk, forced him to empty a cash register, then grabbed some cigarettes and fled in a blue 1995 Ford minivan, OCWeekly.com reports. Police didn't arrive at the scene fast enough to catch any suspects, but after surveillance footage was aired on a local news station, a tipster pointed detectives toward Mendez. Officers arrested the 28-year-old suspect on Tuesday and searched a minivan that they believe was used in the robbery. Inside, police recovered a 3-foot-long branch...
