Bust in West Village New York City ('gay bash'?) of Damian Furtch, perp Anthony Bray says he’s gay too

I thought it was very odd that story broke in the press four days after it happened last Sunday morning. Here is the alleged Gay bash The LGBT community here in New York went into an uproar and screamed Hate Crime, including openly gay council speaker Christine Quinn and this gay brother WARNING STRONG LANGUAGE!!! Don’t paly if easily offended Well, as it turns out the person who smacked up on Damian Furtch is also a gay man.

New York Post reports it’s now a case of he said, he said.

A homeless thug copped to brutally pounding a young gay man in front of a West Village McDonald’s, but told investigators the beat down shouldn’t be labeled a hate crime because he is gay too, police said.

Investigators learned about the odd twist after arresting Anthony Bray, 21, in Brooklyn late Friday night for viciously pummeling Damian Furtch, 26, outside of the fast food joint on West 3rd Street near Sixth Avenue last Sunday, cops said.

The culprit told detectives he threw punches because his victim "disrespected" him, a source said.

Bray has not been charged with a hate crime – only misdemeanor assault.

Furtch, who posted startling images of his black-and-blue face on Facebook after the 4:30 a.m. assault, claimed his attacker shouted gay epithets as he slugged him.

"The fact that the attacker in custody alleges he is gay does not change the fact that he shouted anti gay slurs while attacking me," Furtch said in a statement today.

"I look forward to the criminal trial where all of the accurate details will come out."

The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force will continue to look into Furtch’s allegations and see if any additional charges are warranted, police said.

"It may come down to just two guys having a fistfight," said one police source.

Much ado about nothing!

But, it does point an issue I have made in the past which is the ridiculousness of Hate Crimes laws. People were so quick to assume this had something to do with the victim being gay. They were so quick to get on their soap boxes and even make videos bemoaning how un-cool it is to hate somebody because how they have sex. However, like the old saying says, “When you assume, you make an ass out of you and me!”

We have video evidence of an assault. It’s enough proof for a jury to convict on based on laws we already have. But, Liberals, who invented hate crimes legislation, want to go further into people’s minds, into how they think and make that a crime too. That's totalitarianism, and it’s dangerous!

It’s also a serious impingement on freedom because who becomes the arbiter of correct thought--a hate crime law? How did it work in this case?

And why should we make special laws to cover only certain types of people?

How does that not violate the concept of equal protection under the law?

In fact, hate crimes legislation sets up a separate and unequal form of justice. I thought Liberals were big on the right of privacy to justify what a woman does with her body, namely abortion. Nonetheless, when it comes to the privacy of the mind, privacy doesn’t seem to apply. Thus was a case of assault between two gay men and all the rest of it was needless conversation and grandstanding.
