Comic Review: Detective Comics #875 Posted: 30 Mar 2011 04:34 PM PDT Detective Comics #875 Written by Scott Snyder Art and Colors by Francesco Francavilla Lettering by Jared K. Fletcher DC Comics Release Date: March 30, 2011 Scott Snyder has been teamed up with two of the most consistently amazing artists on his recent run on Detective Comics. Initially, before DC drew the line at $2.99, the outline for Detective Comics was set for Jock to do the art for the main, featured story, and for Francesco Francavilla to have backup feature duties while Snyder wrote both. The main story was to focus on Gotham City's new Batman, Dick Grayson, while the backup was to focus on Gotham's favorite Police Commissioner, James Gordon. The stories were set to intertwine and change places in positioning ever once in a while, but it was always going to try to keep them together. Since January, however, the limited page count has forced the stories apart, and I, for one, could not be happier. In the instance of Detective Comics, it has given us the ability to see a completely focused story from Snyder and, in the case of Detective Comics #875, Francesco Francavilla, and oh what magic they work [...] |
Jerry Bruckheimer Has Script For ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean 5′ Already In The Works Posted: 30 Mar 2011 02:11 PM PDT We've known for a long while now that Disney still had big plans for their Pirates of the Caribbean franchise after their latest installment, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, was announced. As far as we knew, the hopes were to do another whole trilogy with fifth and sixth installments also eventually being made. After the firing of Dick Cook, however, there were a lot of whispers that star Johnny Depp was furious and that if he did return for Pirates 4, it would be his last. Fast forward about a year and a half later, and here we are. On Stranger Tides is about to hit on May 20 and there seems to be a strong buzz behind it, indicating all is well with the franchise. So in order to stay on top of things, super-producer Jerry Bruckheimer has already ordered work to begin on a script for the next movie, Pirates of the Caribbean 5. [...] |

Book Review: Red: My Uncensored Life in Rock by Sammy Hagar Posted: 30 Mar 2011 10:40 AM PDT Red: My Uncensored Life in Rock By Sammy Hagar Hardcover | Kindle HarperCollins Release date: March 15, 2011 Sammy Hagar was once the frontman of one of the biggest and greatest bands in history, the mighty Van Halen. But while Hagar sang about standing on "Top Of The World," as he surely was at times, making millions of dollars, living a life of luxury with fast cars and plenty of women, the musician didn't always have it easy. Matter of fact, Hagar spent years learning that money, fame, and hit records couldn't solve every problem, like his wife's mental state or his bandmate's addictions and jealousies. In his autobiography, Red: My Uncensored Life in Rock, we learn that Hagar began life modestly in Fontana, CA. The youngest of four children, he was raised in a low-income household with an alcoholic father who abused his mother. He later went on have his own family with little means of supporting them, but Hagar makes it clear that he was always a hard worker. It always seemed that the entertainer got his big break in music when he was asked by the Van Halen brothers, guitarist Eddie and drummer Alex, to replace their departing singer David Lee Roth just as the band had come off a winning strike with their best-selling album up until that time, 1984. But while Van Halen was one of the biggest rock bands at the time, thanks to hits like "Jump" and "Panana," Hagar was already a successful solo artist who had actually made enough money and did enough tours on his own to retire from music altogether. And retire to a life of solitude with his wife and kids was his plan until Eddie Van Halen persuaded him to join the band, and while Hagar was reluctant to accept, his chemistry musically with Van Halen proved too strong a force to deny -- the singer/guitarist was ready for the "Best Of Both Worlds." Set Photos Reveal Adrianne Palicki In New Wonder Woman Costume Posted: 30 Mar 2011 09:42 AM PDT Earlier this month, the first photo was released of Adrianne Palicki as TV's new Wonder Woman, but the costume was met with much dislike, with fans stating that it looked like a cheap Halloween costume. Apparently, the creators of the upcoming Wonder Woman series took the criticism to heart, as new set photos from the show reveal Palicki in a revised costume. The costume revision is more in line with what we expect Wonder Woman to look like. The original bright blue pleather pants have been replaced with dark blue tights that have gold stars down the side; the equally bright blue boots are now red and the large block heel is gone [...] |
