TARDIS Materializes In Front Of Raglan Castle In Wales Posted: 22 Feb 2011 08:06 PM PST News has been a little quiet on the Doctor Who front lately, but we do know that production is continuing on the three main shows, Doctor Who, Torchwood: Miracle Day, and The Sarah Jane Adventures. Meanwhile, we came across some cool info on the web that the official TARDIS prop is on display in front of a classic medieval castle in Wales. In South East Wales, the Doctor's TARDIS will be on display in front of Raglan Castle during the February half-term (for those of us not in the UK, half-term is a little vacation halfway through the school term -- thanks, Terr, for the clarification) [...] |
Kevin Costner In Zack Snyder’s ‘Superman’ Posted: 22 Feb 2011 06:55 PM PST Kevin Costner is one of those actors that sort of lost his way. Early in his career he was in some great films and he even directed one of them, but then he faded into direct-to-DVD Hell. Now Latino Review has it from a "well placed source" that Costner has been cast in Zack Snyder's upcoming reboot Superman, alongside Henry Cavill who will be playing the Man of Steel. Rumors circulated for a while about who Costner would play. Some believed he might play a villain, but the role that made the most sense was that of Jonathan Kent, the man who found a baby in a crash-landed space ship and named him Clark [...] |
Michael Bay To Produce ‘Zombies vs. Robots’ For Sony Pictures Posted: 22 Feb 2011 05:42 PM PST In a press release sent out today, it was announced that Sony Pictures has acquired the movie rights to the IDW Publishing comic book series, Zombies vs. Robots. The comic, written and created by Chris Ryall with Ashley Wood handling artwork, tells the story of robots who fight off waves of hungry zombies as they try and protect the last surviving human. Michael Bay, along with Brad Fuller and Andrew Form and their Platinum Dunes Productions will produce Zombies vs. Robots in a collaboration with IDW and Circle of Confusion, with Sony handling distribution. SYNOPSIS In the ZOMBIES VS ROBOTS comic series, the last remaining human in the world is protected by an assortment of robots against overwhelming zombie hordes. When the robots mistakenly expose the human infant's presence to the zombies, it leads to an all-out battle for the survival of mankind. The series takes a playful look at a far-fetched concept, resulting in something that transcends the usual "vs" approach. [...] |
‘I Am Number Four’ Director D.J. Caruso To Finally Bring ‘Preacher’ To Life? Posted: 22 Feb 2011 04:08 PM PST A movie adaptation of Preacher has been talked about for so long that it's rarely worth even bothering with news like this, but fans of the comic still hold on to hope that some day a faithful adaptation will find its way to the screen...or at least they did, until today that is. According to director D.J. Caruso via his own Twitter account, he's officially closed a deal to take on Preacher, making him the latest in a line of names attached to the movie at one point or another. Caruso is of course best known for his work on action/thrillers like Disturbia, Eagle Eye, and the new movie, I Am Number Four. Some may still be gleeful at this news, but for the vast majority of Preacher fans it has to be a crushing blow. One of the problems that has always delayed the adaptation was the fact that it would have to be really dark and really violent and really R-rated -- never a pleasing recipe to financiers. Caruso is making his mark with mediocre PG-13 movies, and a wave of panic is all but guaranteed, it not all-out rioting. [...] |
In Memoriam: Comics Creator Dwayne McDuffie Posted: 22 Feb 2011 02:56 PM PST Comics and cartoon writer Dwayne McDuffie, who most recently penned the script for the DC Animated feature All-Star Superman, passed away from complications from a surgical procedure he had on Monday. McDuffie got his start in comics as a member of Marvel's editorial staff in the 1980s. While an editor at Marvel, McDuffie began writing the Damage Control miniseries and helped to revamp the Deathlok character. Eventually, McDuffie began writing full-time and would help create the Milestone comics universe at DC. Milestone was a separate line that featured minority heroes such as Static, Hardware, and Icon. In recent years, McDuffie began writing for cartoons as well, including a cartoon adaptation of his Static character, Static Shock. He also served as the story editor on the immensely popular Justice League Unlimited cartoon and a writer on Ben 10: Alien Force. McDuffie also wrote the DC Comics straight-to-DVD animated feature Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths, as well as an adaptation of All-Star Superman that was released on DVD and Blu-ray today [...] |
Smell-O-Vision Is Real & It’s Coming This Year! ‘World Of Warcraft’ First To Be Scented? Posted: 22 Feb 2011 12:18 PM PST Today is a special day, folks. Today is a day where we find out that one of those things we've always dreamed about but never actually thought was possible is revealed to be a reality. That's right, ladies and gentlemen, Smell-O-Vision is here! We've all heard of it, and all wished it were real: movies, TV shows, video games, and more that allow you to smell various settings or things you're seeing on the screen. Such a thing would make home entertainment more immersive and interactive than it's ever been before, and has the potential to be an endlessly amusing sensory experience if done correctly. At the recent Consumer Electronics Show (which featured some jaw-dropping new technologies that are fast on their way to every day usage) a product called the ScentScape was presented by creator Scent Sciences. The device is synchronized with whatever you're watching or playing and at certain points throughout, a specific scent is triggered and sent out to nearby nostrils. [...] |

Blu-ray Review: All-Star Superman Posted: 22 Feb 2011 07:48 AM PST All-Star Superman Limited Edition Blu-ray | Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack | 2-Disc DVD | DVD Directed by Sam Liu Starring James Denton, Christina Hendricks, Anthony LaPaglia, Ed Asner, Alexis Denisof Warner Home Video Release date: February 22, 2011 Perhaps the most beloved Superman story of all time, Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely's All-Star Superman amazed fans as it hit comic racks from 2005 to 2008. Many readers who never considered themselves fans of the character agree that Morrison's tale of the most powerful hero who ever lived completely changed their view of the Man of Steel. So when it was announced that this instant classic would be the basis for the tenth entry in Warner Premiere and DC Comics' collection of animated films, many were understandably nervous. The result, however, was something pretty amazing. The screenplay written by the legendary Dwayne McDuffie stays quite faithful to Morrison's original story. After a series of events set into motion by Lex Luthor, Superman finds himself more powerful than ever -- but there's a catch. His body is slowly breaking down and his death is imminent. With this in mind, he wastes no time making his remaining time on Earth count for something. His adventures include a romantic birthday celebration for Lois Lane, a special visit to his hometown of Smallville, and run-ins with classic and original villains both on Earth and in space […] |
